Living with bipolar disorder can present unique challenges, and navigating those challenges often feels easier with support and solid information. That’s why we’re excited to share to you the upcoming UCSF Psycho-Educational Zoom Group for Adults with Bipolar Disorder, starting July 1, 2025!

This activity under the Bipolar Disorder Program of the Department of Psychiatry is aimed at providing a community resource for individuals with bipolar disorder, mental health professionals and psychiatrists. Headed by Dr. Descartes Li, the program director, it is designed to augment the treatment of bipolar disorder and to help fill the needs due to the increased number of referrals from the community

This 8-session weekly group is designed to provide you with valuable insights and practical tools to manage your mental health, all within a supportive and understanding virtual environment.

What to Expect:

The group focuses on common experiences faced by adults with bipolar disorder, offering a blend of educational content and open discussion. And will delve into a range of essential topics, including:

  • Circadian Rhythms and Sleep Management: Understanding the crucial link between sleep and mood stability.
  • Psychotherapy and Mood Charting: Exploring therapeutic approaches and the power of tracking your mood.
  • Early Action Plans: Developing strategies to recognize and address early warning signs.
  • Bipolar Medications: Gaining a deeper understanding of medication management.
  • Disclosure and Stigma: Navigating the challenges of social stigma and fostering self-acceptance.
  • Light/Dark Therapy: Learning about alternative therapies for mood regulation.

Group Details:

  • Location: Zoom link (TBD)
  • Dates: Begins July 1, 2025 (8-session weekly group)
  • Meeting Times: Tuesdays, 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Frequency: Offered twice per year.

Important Information:

  • Eligibility:
    • Registered UCSF patients can be referred via MyChart/Apex.
    • Individuals not currently registered at UCSF require an initial registration and consultation.
    • All participants must have a primary psychiatrist.
  • Technology: Participants must be comfortable using Zoom. A laptop or desktop computer is highly recommended.
  • Fees and Insurance: There is a fee for these sessions, but insurance may cover a significant portion. We will need your insurance information to confirm coverage.
  • Referral Deadline: June 23, 2025.
